Why do people want to write and draw other people's creations...it truly baffles me.  I get zero pleasure out of drawing characters that someone else has done, and I can't even fake it.  It has to come from me or I just can't do it.

Some people like making art for originality.

Others, for popularity.

im one of those people who can't draw from their head cause it turns out like a 6yr olds work haha
i can't create something realistic without having all the details there for me to look at and replicate. There are many days when i wish i didn't need to use a source image...

i really admire those who have the ability to create from within theirselves.

I hear ya, I consider realism and using reference to be very important and necessary, and the people who can do it have worked so hard to get there...if it wasn't easy to get somewhere it wasn't worth getting there :)

Not everyone can, wants to, or should write. You are fortunate to have the stories inside your soul, and/or as the history of your life.

I enjoy drawing other people's characters from time to time but it's drawing my own creations that gives me the greatest pleasure. Sadly, I haven't had much time to do that of late.

I believe this phenomenon of which you speak is known popularly as "Fan Art" ( say it fast enough, and it sounds like "fart"...)

Unless of course you're an insanely talented penciller/inker in the employ of Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, etc., I don't get it either!

no I don't mean fanart at all, I mean the pros.
