If you are interested in tracking down reference of fashion models you might want to pick up the September Vogue special anniversary issue (out now). Nearly 1k pages of high end fashion photography for $5.99. It's totally worth it. Also, check out the work of the photographer Helmut Newton. He's done work for fashion magazines since the fifties and his cannon is vast, but there is greatness to be found there... peep: [link]
I've heard of Helmut Newton but hearing of someone and really *knowing* their work is two different things, so I shall have to investigate further...
The only thing that seems Sim-ish are some of the hands. Dave’s hands are very much _his_ hands.
Just because it was previously done, doesn’t make it right. And I’d say it’s “some” if not “few”, certainly not “most” great illustration work….
As for “tracing better”…well, it should all be outlawed (ok, that’s extreme)…might as well buy a colouring book and ink over that. Save a lot of time.
Good that you dig it, obvious a portion of people do (I would have bet GP would not have last 6 issues), and large fan bases of other tracers currently working for The Bigs are abound…
Personally, I find it very, very unfortunate that such a gifted cartoonist is continuing down this road for so long.
I don't know if I'd call them failures. Figure every drawing is a series of problems to be solved. You solved more than you didn't, so by that thinking... well, you get my point!
