Cactus Comics number 1 cover by jhames34 Cactus Comics number 1 cover by jhames34
This cover...is it...Bad? Would you describe it as a...Thriller? Tell me the way it makes you feel. Dirty, Diana? Well just Leave Me Alone then! This book will be HIStory!
Went with Dave Sim's advice of making something recognizable on the cover, to grab the potential reader's eye...

I think I told you, years and several user names ago, how awesome your icon is. And it is still awesome.

So is a cactus with marshmallows for prickles.

It's a great policy following Sims' advice on making a recognizable cover. (Satirizing or borrowing a known image is a great tool -- think of Gen13 and their Janet Jackson knockoff. Or the many copies of a superhero lifting a car - aping Action Comics#1.) And, I loved your reference here! You did a good job.

But I wonder if enough people will also get it - given that Bad was so long ago. Just wondering on your behalf...

Well, my thought on it is that MJ died about a year ago, and he was all over the media, his albums went back to number 1, etc. so it's a little more likely now that it would be more recognized, than say, 3 years ago...
Thanks a bunch!

I think it is an eye-grabber. The Michael Jackson riff gives it an iconic look. That's a mighty fine lookin' cactus.

It's a penis with a rough rider condom in leath-ahh. Something to grab the potential reader's . . . eye.

Really fifty nifty design. But the lettering you could work on. (See "How to Write Like an Architect" in my R&R video library. I featured it last week in the journal. It's for balloons and captions, but the principles apply to any size.)

I AM the MOUSE MASTER! Hahaha!

Sitting quietly in the dim light in my studio, sketching on Posemaniacs, what do I see? The gray ghost-shadow of a mouse returning to his den! But the den is no more. Empty space. A file cabinet on wheels. A glass based pushcart.

And lo! What is this? A tube is laid down along the wall. A trap, perchance? And gloves and sock hat at the ready - a long stick to coax my little friend from hiding and send him dashing to his doom - but, NO! He avoids the tube-tunnel! He zigs and zags his way into the foyer, taking refuge under the washer and dryer!

So now, plan B! Did you think it so easy to escape ME! Yahahahah!

A plank to block him from retracing his steps to the other room - the outside door left open - the perilous point of a target arrow used as a probe to flush him to one side . . . a little face at the side of the washer! A mad dash back to the den! The way is blocked - Oh! No! Ping ping ping a ricochet through the threshold into the night! Into FREEDOM!

Begone, vermin. (And take that moron, Mr. Brewster, with you!
(From now on we do a cavity search of Mr. Brewster when he enters.)

Hah! Shows you! I've been cleaning up my studio all day because my dumb cat brings home field mice and releases them in my studio, then goes out for more.

One was living in my studio! After I removed everything from the shelves and moved and dismantled what I could, found his little nest. I bagged about a cup and a half of hard catfood that he pilfered from the cat's dish. He also collected cat hair from the carpet and lint from my drier to make a comfy little bed.

I could live with that, but he impregnated a six by two stretch of carpet with his droppings. Oddly, however, it seems he urinated regularly in only two spots!

After I cleaned the carpet, I decided to redesign the studio. I'm going to get simple steel rack shelving like you use in your basement or garage and simply shelve the wall six feet long by two feet wide by seven feet high. Meanwhile, the great room is a mess with all my supplies and stuff.

Say good bye to Mr. Brewster and his little friend (hehe). So there!
